Open 10am to 4pm from mid May - October for tours. Founded in 1830, the New Bedford Port Society maintains the historic Seamen's Bethel and Mariner's Home located on the top of Johnny Cake Hill in the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park.
In 1851, Herman Melville published Moby-Dick, his famous tale of the white whale. The bethel was immortalized in the book as the "Whaleman's Chapel".
