Built at the beginning of the second century, the ancient stadium of Philippopolis is the next place in Plovdiv that you should definitely visit. It is one of the most remarkable facilities and is one of the best preserved buildings from the time of Ancient Rome. In 1995 the ancient building was declared a national cultural value, and in 2013 the place was restored and equipped with a coffee bar and a 3D cinema. If you want to enjoy the wonderful Roman finds, you can find them on the main street. However, you will only see the northern part of the majestic stadium, because everything else is hidden deep along the shopping street.

The Stadium of Philippopolis was built in the beginning of 2nd century AD Like the other imperial buildings for spectacular events, the Ancient Stadium of Philippopolis had its seats of honour preserved by inscriptions in the marble blocks. Seats with Greek inscriptions were found, proving the existence of special seats for members of higher public position.
