Jiufen (九份老街) Feel spirited away in this decommissioned gold mining mountain town, originally built by the Japanese and now a maze of lanes and alleyways with rich history and culture. Many buildings in the town remain unchanged to this day, the town today exists mainly as a tourist destination remembering and celebrating Taiwanese history and culture. The town is filled with both retro Chinese and Japanese style cafés, tea houses, and souvenir shops, as well as fantastic views of the ocean. A convenient way to visit Jiufen (as well as Shifen in Pingxi 平溪) is to take a shuttle bus from Ximen, leaving in the morning and returning before dinner.

This place is like Taiwan in the olden days with many interesting local style shops and street food. There is beautiful ocean view of Keelung outer sea!

Jiufen is a former mining town, sitting on a hilly slope, now a touristic attraction renown for it's tea houses, traditional restaurants, and its "Myazaki" atmosphere. Enjoying a tea on a terrace overlooking the valley is priceless.
