The Jewish Museum of Florida is located in two Art Deco synagogues (the first permitted to be built in Miami Beach) and tells the history of the Jews of Florida who were integral in the development of South Beach including the cultural influence, architecture and art. The staff here are extremely knowledge and welcoming. $6 admission, free on Saturdays. There is also an excellent Jewish Food Walking Tour of the city where you'll explore the neighborhood and sample food at some of the Jewish restaurants in South Beach.
