The construction began between 1385 and 1402 and was the tallest building in the Lanna Kingdom (82 meters high and 54 meters wide). The Emerald Buddha (Thailand's most sacred relic) was moved to this temple from Lampang in 1468 until 1552. Due to an earthquake in 1545, the site has been reconstructed multiple times but never finish until today.
