Named after William Brodie, the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's Jekyll and Hyde. Born in 1741 Brodie was a deacon of the Guild of Wrights. By day, he was a respectable citizen but by night, he consorted with lowlife; gambling and drinking. He subsequently took to burglary to pay his gambling debts, leading to his hanging in 1788.

Okay - I only mention this, as it is the true story of Jekyll and Hyde - worth a visit if you are on the Royal Mile

If you want to try traditional Scottish foods, this is the place to go. You can try haggis, cullen skink, smoked salmon, and delicious cranachan for dessert.
