This 18th century home is the site of the 1788 Battle of the State of Franklin between John Sevier and Col. John Tipton. In the 1840s it was the home of Landon Carter Haynes who became a Confederate Senator. The site is on the Tennessee Civil War Trail.

I love that little cave that's there. This is a great little piece of local history. - The Tipton-Haynes State Historic Site tells the rich story of the history of Northeast Tennessee and of the several families that lived here. The site includes 45 acres, eleven historic buildings, the Tipton/Gifford/Simerly cemetery, a limestone cave, a natural spring, a buffalo trace, a nature trail, and a Visitor Center. The Visitor Center contains a permanent exhibit, museum store, educational spaces, a library, and archives.
