Beautiful gardens and amazing views. Only 1km walk away. The obelisk in Savage Memorial Park on Bastion Point commemorates the burial place of Michael Joseph Savage, first Labour prime minister, who died in 1940.
This is not only a stunning lookout over Auckland's harbour, it also has an important history, as this land was fought to be returned to Maori who had it taken unlawfully, creating a precedent for the colonial government to redress unlawful and unjust land confiscations or thefts that happened since colonisation began.
A short walk down Kupe St and across the beautiful and historically rich headland of Bastion Point. Best views of the Auckland Harbour.
Drive or walk up to the incredible structure, and historical site. Breath-taking views, particularly at night.
