my absolutely favorite place in town. you can take a walk, run, read, have a coffee and while doing all these imagine the Kaiser and Sisi times!! It is like a fairy tale.

GLORIETTE - VIEW OVER VIENNA The structure consists of a triumphal arch-like central part and lateral arched arcade wings. The central part, which was glazed in the last year of Maria Theresa's life, is crowned by a mighty imperial eagle on the globe, surrounded by weapon trophies. The flat roof is bordered by a balustrade and was already used as a viewing platform at the beginning of the 19th century. It is still accessible today via stairs. The attic below bears the inscription: JOSEPHO II. AVGVSTO ET MARIA THERESIA IMPERANTIB. ERECT. CI)I)CCLXXV. The notation of the year dates back to a common practice among early printers to represent large numbers using a combination of the letter C, the letter I, and the ancient Roman apostrophe (similar to today's parentheses). M (=1000) was replaced by the form C-I apostrophe and D (=500) by I apostrophe. Ps. There is a very nice café there!
