Melissani Cave is located about 2km from the town of Sami, and 10 km from Argostoli. The cave had actually been hidden underground for many hundreds of years, then over time, the roof collapsed and created this incredible spot to see where sunlight enters through the hole in the roof, creating amazing shades of blue-colored light on the cave walls. The best visual effects occur around noon, when the sun is overhead. Archaeological finds suggest that the cave may once have been used as an ancient place of worship, known as the Cave of the Nymphs. Once here, buy a ticket and head on inside the cave area itself. Then hop on one of the boats and take a ride across the lake itself. The water is so beautiful and crystal clear, it’s stunning to see.

One of the most popular places visit someone in Kefalonia. It's a lake inside a cave. There is a boat with a guide with a minor cost that help tourists to explore lake cave. Must visit!
Melissani is an underground lake nearby Sami. A boat trip on its bluish green water is a unique experience. Depending on the time of the day the water colour changes as the sunbeams hit it from different angles.
Definitely go at around 12 during the summer months because that is when the sun is right on top of the cave and the water turns that beautiful blue colour. You can stop here on your way to Antisammos beach.
