If you only take one boat trip whilst in the lake then this is the one you should not miss.

What a stunning boat.... a rebuilt Victorian steam powered yacht on Coniston Water. She was built in 1859 by the Furness Railway Company as an attraction for the tourists they brought by train to Coniston. It is said that this Gondola gave Arthur Ransome the idea for Captain Flint's houseboat in his book 'Swallows and Amazons'. You can request to stop at 'Brantwood', the home of John Ruskin from 1871-1900. The last stop is at Monk Coniston, the Northern tip of the Lake. Here you can disembark for a 3 hour loop walk to Tarn Hows and back perhaps?

As an alternative to Windermere, you can get on the water in a more genteel pace of the Coniston Steam Gondola, the oldest steam yacht in the North of England which was built in 1859 and restored in 1980. Enjoy a circular tour of the lake.
