Bark covered cottage in a lush mountain laurel forest, yet close to everything! Beautiful front porch, upscale furnishings and detailing, full kitchen, beautiful, subway tile walk in shower. The weather in Cashiers is ideal for hiking, biking, fly fishing, golf or just relaxing!
We do ask three day bookings on weekends in the summer, fall and holidays. Two day stays welcomed winter & early spring, or mid week.
Ok, times are tough. For you, for me, for the world. With the current health situation, everyone is nervous, and with good reason. None of us truly knows what's around the corner. We've had a number of cancellations, as we expected....weddings that have been canceled, guests who can't fly in...so we have openings here in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains .
Two things to point out. First, you can still have a wonderful getaway, even in these times. Life is all around us. We need to celebrate it, every day. You can't go to Italy or France, or probably anywhere that requires a flight....but if you're within driving distance, the mountains beckon. Hikes are free, as are mountain top views and breathtaking waterfalls. Long walks, riding a bike, no crowds. Carryout is available at some excellent nearby restaurants, or cook the latest NY Times recipe that caught your eye together in the petite but we’ll stocked kitchen of the Hobbit House. Then eat by the fireplace, at the table, or if it's warm enough, on the front porch listening to the wind whisper through the trees. Enjoy some quality time watching a movie or sit by the fire (we supply the firewood) laughing and making s'mores. Get a great night's sleep on a super comfy mattress (seriously, SO many guests want to buy one I should get a commission) in the fresh mountain air. Come see us...the mountains are waiting.
Second, I had a recent guest who was arriving that day ask, "Do you have strict cleaning procedures at the house? No offense intended!". To which I replied, "None taken!". Why wouldn't you wonder about cleaning in times like these? We want prospective and future guests to know we have reviewed and instituted even more strict cleaning procedures, for the protection of you and our housekeepers.
Those things said, welcome to the Hobbit House in the breathtaking mountains of western North Carolina. A small space, yes...but such a blissful sanctuary. The perfect hideout for a week or a weekend. Just a two minute drive (if that), or an easy walk to the Cashiers crossroads, the Hobbit House is nestled within an acre of mountain laurel, holly and tall pines....an airy, sophisticated Cashiers cabin with in-town seclusion.
Privacy yet close to everything? Check. Spa bathroom? Check. The most comfortable bed this side of the Mississippi? Check. Sophisticated yet relaxed? Check.
The Hobbit House has been completely redone with new stainless kitchen appliances and new (email hidden)d redecorated into a luxurious and peaceful retreat for two - or three, if you have a dog ($50 dog fee).
Get away from everything - yet have all the luxuries of home: HD Roku TV streaming service with many major cable channels and all sports channels (SEC AND ACC included, not major networks just yet.), Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, etc... WiFi, landline phone, washer and dryer, a petite but complete modern kitchen, sound dock for your iPhone, a bath with flagstone floor and a fabulous new subway-tiled walk-in shower. On chillier days, there is warm air flowing at the flick of a switch, and cool stainless ceiling fans plus a high efficiency standing AC to cool you on the rare, warmer than normal day.
Follow the mountain laurel railing upstairs to the light and bright loft bedroom, where a wonderful night's sleep awaits under the rafters. The gel-topped, foam, king size bed(we have guests asking where to get one) will soothe you to sleep in the cool mountain air after a day of hiking, waterfalls or shopping.
The Hobbit House is a cabin with a difference. The dark furniture, granny bedspreads, and someone else's knick-knacks and odd pieces went somewhere else. Everything in The Hobbit House has been chosen specifically for this cottage. While poplar bark siding protects the exterior, inside you'll find a light, modern, designer-mountain feel with a pleasing whitewashed shiplap interior, artisan details, the latest efficient (energy and otherwise) appliances and cool art. For your skin, there are also new, top quality linen sheets and fluffy towels...you won't find another place like it.
In the morning, have your coffee on the Sunday porch swing next to the mountain laurel rails that line the deck. Listen to the sounds of the rain forest and the Carolina birds singing their tunes. Promise yourself that today, you WILL make time for reading. Ok, and maybe a nap on that same plush swing-bed. Later, enjoy a glass of wine there or take it with you walking the secluded roads and trails just outside your door.
Then, if you wish, cook dinner in the fully-equipped kitchen. Even better, leave the dishes to someone else and slip away to one of Cashier's many wonderful restaurants that are just minutes away. Welcome to a slice of heaven of your choosing!
While we do invite your dog to stay with you - there are dog sheets for the couch and bed on both floors - as mentioned, we also charge an additional $50 cleaning fee for each doggie (limit 2).
NOTE: A three day stay is required summer, fall and holidays...the exception being if we happen to have 2 days open last minute...just check the schedule. If so, please send a message...and if we can book the housekeeper, it’s yours!
Cashiers is one of the most unique places in the U.S....the climate is spectacular, which is why southerners have been coming there for generations "to summer". It's easily 10-15 degrees cooler than anywhere else, and with frequent summer showers, everything stays verdant and fresh. The Cashiers-Highlands area is very upscale, plenty of golf and tennis, plus incredible hikes, waterfalls and sweeping vistas, great restaurants....really, there's no other place like it!
