Kames, Uk, Regne Unit

An extremely bright, upper apartment with beautiful views over the Kyles of Bute. This cosy wee flat lies on the top floor of an attractive, stone-built villa situated in the coastal village of Kames, by Tighnabruiach. The holiday flat is a blissful retreat, in walking distance of the local pub and convenience store. In winter you can cosy up by the wood-burning stove & watch a movie, and the summer months call for a waterside stroll followed by lunch on the water outisde the Kames hotel pub.
There is a cosy lounge space with wood-burning stove, sofa, tv and dvd player (selection of dvds as well). This room features the breakfast bar with stunning views up the Kyles of Bute. There is a small kitchenette with oven and stove, nespresso machine, kettle and fridge. There are two double bedrooms, one bathroom (which is the ensuite of one of the bedrooms) and an extra loo at the flat entrance.
The views from the apartment are quite sensational. Once the escape for Glasgow City lawyers and teachers, Kames is now an artist's retreat and mooring point for keen sailors. The Kames hotel is walking distance and offers food and drinks daily. The shop 100 meters and has everything you could possibly need for your stay; fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, snacks, milk, wine and spirits, as well as necessities such as logs, toothpaste and venison! Kames has its own 9 Hole 'Parkland' Golf Course which is about three minutes from the apartment by car and within walking distance for those looking to extend their walk, carrying golf clubs even further. Portavadie Marina & Spa is less than 10 minutes from Heathbank. This well-known tourist attraction has beautiful contemporary pools (including outdoor heated pool), saunas, steam rooms, cafes and health spa where you can book massages etc. The views from the pools are quite lovely and this is a wonderful place to unwind before popping back to the apartment for a glass of wine by the woodburner.

My place is in the historic village of Millhouse, near the beautiful sandy beach at Ostel bay, lovely country walks, Tighnabruiach and the Portavadie marina. You’ll love my place because of the log burning stove and the great deck. My place is good for couples, families (with kids), and well behaved pets (£20 extra cleaning fee for pets ). Two pet max. It also has BT Business Wifi. If you are looking for a shorter stay than available then please let me know - I can sometimes do two nights.
The cottage is one of the workers cottages for the former gunpowder factory. It was built in around 1870 and has been fully modernised. There are plenty of outside seating areas on the decks to watch the world go by or have a bite to eat. The porch means you're safe from any inclement weather. The log fire will send out a vast amount of heat to keep you cosy and there is also a smart TV ( Wifi but no terrestrial TV reception ). There is a microwave, a dishwasher, washing machine, kettle, toaster, fridge, oven and hob. We also now have a BT Business line in the cottage to provide reliable wifi.
Millhouse is a small village just outside Tighnabruiach in Argyll, around 2 hours from Glasgow. Millhouse was home to a Gunpowder factory from 1849 to the early 1920's and the cottage is one of the former workers cottages. Many of the ruins can be found in the surrounding woods. Millhouse is near the scenic village of Tighnabruiach, Kames, the Portavadie marina and the beautiful beach at Ostel bay. You can see more pictures of the area on a popular social media site: (URL HIDDEN) Shops: There is a spar in Tighnabruiach a couple of miles from the cottage. If you carry on the shore road past the T-junction at the An Lochan hotel then its just along there on the right, along with the post office and the art gallery. There is also a local shop in Kames. From the Kames post office turn down towards the short and round a bend and the shop is on the right. Eating & Drinking: Wellpark is beautifully restored (URL HIDDEN) Wellpark welcome non-residents for bar lunches, and suppers but best to book in advance, especially in the summer. Botanica (URL HIDDEN) Just opened this year in Tighnabruaich village. Great cooking with locally sourced food and a menu which changes daily. Also a good place for a coffee – chocolate brownies are very good. For evening meals they open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The quality of the food is outstanding, best to book as it is a very popular place to eat. Kames Hotel (URL HIDDEN) about a mile from the cottage in Kames. Royal Hotel (URL HIDDEN) between the two villages of Kames and Tighnabruaich Portavadie Marina (URL HIDDEN) is a couple of miles away with three places to eat, a fine dining experience but also a budget restaurant and a cafe in this new and glitzy complex on the edge of Loch Fyne, with marina, health spa, gym, swimming and hot tubs as well The Oyster Catcher at Otter Ferry on the shore of Loch Fyne. A great place for a meal, the food is excellent or an evening drink and to see the sun set in the west. (URL HIDDEN)

We offer the studio flat in our basement, just off the High Road in Tighnabruaich, situated in a beautiful oak and hazel woodland, but a short walk from both the seashore and the local amenities (the local hotel bar/restaurant and shops). The flat consists of a double bedroom with television and electric heating, a shower room with wc and heated towel rail and a kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge and coffee making facilities.
There is parking space immediately outside the apartment.
We are nestled in oak and hazel woodland which you are welcome to access through our garden. Opposite the entrance to the studio is a short and shady passageway down to the nearby burn - a waterfall lies in the glade at the end in the gully. Very idyllic. The sound of the waterfall is a constant, soothing presence. The heart of the village is a short walk away down Bobby's Brae. In downtown Tighnabruaich you'll find the Tighnabruaich Hotel's bar/restaurant which is friendly of price and atmosphere, Raj's local grocery store, the Tearoom, and the Abbeyfield Charity Shop. Kyles Athletic Shinty club play their home matches nearby, their (in)famously sloping pitch edging down to the stunning Kyles of Bute.

Shops - Spar (and ATM) in Tighnabruaich and Kames Village Stores. Firewood on sale in Kames. Look out for locally produced food too - particularly good venison produced by a man with the unlikely name of Winston Churchill is available in local shops and at his place at Clachaig near Samdbank. Art Galleries dotted about. 9 hole golf course at Kames. Set of clubs available if you wish to use. Please let me know in advance and I’ll arrange get them down from loft. Shinty: this is hockey with added violence - similar to hurly in Ireland. Popular sport in the Highlands, local team, Kyles Athletic, play on pitch off road between Kames and Tighnabruaich. And then repair to the Shinty Bar. Sailing at sailing centre on the Kames road - you can hire dinghies. If you fancy a trip in the world’s last remaining, ocean-going paddle steamer, the “SS Waverley”, it calls in at Tighnabruaich Pier every Wednesday from late June to late August at around lunchtime and goes on a short cruise to Tarbert (see later) on Loch Fyne, passing the cottage as it nears Ardlamont Point, and back returning at about 5 o’clock. Well worth a trip. See pictures for current timetable. 2. Portavadie Extraordinary redevelopment of a former white elephant 1970s oil rig construction yard. Now home to chi chi apartments, a great restaurant, a swimming pool and spa (complete with outdoor infinity pool overlooking Loch Fyne - quite possibly the only one on Loch Fyne), a marina and boatyard. Well worth a visit - very good Sunday lunch menu. 3. Beaches Fantastic beach at Ostel Bay - it is about a mile's walk from Kilbride Farm on the Millhouse road. Nice wee pop-up café at the farm. Stonier beaches nearby at the end of the farm track within walking distance. 3. Further afield Oystercatcher pub and restaurant at Otter Ferry is very good - about 10 miles north overlooking beach. Fine restaurant at Inver Cottage further on from Otter Ferry - never been but gets rave reviews. People travel miles to visit it - has rooms if you’ve overdone it. Ferry from Portavadie takes you to Tarbert, a pretty fishing village on Kintyre peninsula. Great fishmonger on the jetty to take some seafood back to cook at the end of the day. One or two semi-decent pubs and nice restaurant called the Anchorage which was very good the last time I went, admittedly in 1995, and always a buzz around the place, in summer anyway. Skipness Castle - there is the Seafood Cabin here. It is at the end of the road over from Tarbert. Cabin is some kind of tinker’s wagon parked in a garden with lots of picnic tables. It is gloriously chaotic: you will need to get used to hens clucking about at your feet as you munch away on your crab sandwich or mussels but the food is always good. And the sun always seems to shine. You can explore the castle after lunch and climb up to the vertiginous ramparts and enjoy yet more views over to Arran. But don’t look down! Isle of Gigha - this would be a 4 ferry trip - Portavadie to Tarbert, then drive 20 miles to Tayinloan and get another ferry to lovely Gigha with its beaches (head for Twin Beaches to north of Island if you can), seafood café, hotel and gardens at Achamore. You can hire bikes there - it is very flat. V. fine views to islands of Islay, famous for its whisky, and Jura and the Paps (mountains). Note last ferry is at 4:30 pm so if you miss it you will be staying overnight! Ferry goes to Islay from Kennacraig near Tarbert - worth visiting the distilleries, particularly during the Malt Whisky Festival in May of each year. But perhaps too much for a day trip, particularly if you have been doing some in-depth sampling of the “twilight wine of Scotland”, to quote the late Alistair Cooke. Hope you enjoy some of these suggestions. If you find something else that you would like to recommend to other guests, please mention it in your review. Slainte!

Quina gema amagada. El lloc on allotjar-se si visiteu Argyle and Bute. Era millor que una casa des del lloc de casa perquè la ubicació era simplement impressionant. Gràcies Ronnie i Fiona per deixar-nos quedar a casa seva. Ronnie

Our house has a fantastic seaside position, set up from the shore overlooking the island of Bute across a stretch of water. The village of Kames is quiet and quite remote so its a place to escape to for some peace and recuperation with walks, cycling, sailing, beach combing at your fingertips. There is a pub within walking distance in the village and an excellent restaurant too.
There is a 9 hole golf course in the village and also a public tennis court. The world's only ocean going paddle steamer "The Waverley" calls in at our village in the summer season taking passengers on tours to Tarbert and Loch Fyne. We have a fabulous new marina complex nearby with a state of the art spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a great restaurant too.

Rest and rejuvenation, peace and tranquility; off-grid, no electricity, no neighbours, feeling remote with glorious views over the sea to the Isle of Bute with the Isle of Arran in the distance. Mountain stream fresh water heated with wood burner warmth. Coronavirus. Our cleaning and changeover staff undertake the cleaning tips and hygiene recommendations provided by Airbnb from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and wear single use gloves and masks whilst in the property.
The cottage is a comfortably rustic traditional building constructed of stone and slate in 1896 as a gamekeepers cottage for the Caladh Estate. The stone wall and pine clad ceiling interior has exposed beams. The wooden floor boards in the main two rooms and the stone floors to the rear rooms are painted. Heating is by virtue of a wood-burning stove and log fire. The wood stove's back boiler produces hot water so you can bathe in the wonderful long deep Victorian cast iron bath. Lighting is provided by enclosed candle lanterns, the candles for which are provided. For cooking there is a 4 ring gas cooker with oven and grill and the kitchen is well equipped for most purposes. A modern digital radio and a stereo CD radio cassette with lead to accept stereo media are provided. Please note there is no electricity or land telephone line. The local hotels and cafes accommodate visitors to charge up their media devices. The main bedroom has a pine double bed, chest of drawers, two small bedside chests of drawers and a recess for hanging clothes. Heating is provided by a log fire. The second bedroom has a bunk bed with double bed on the bottom and single up top and some large wall shelfs and a hanging rack. There is a small conservatory with table and chairs to the rear side of the cottage with lovely views over the Kyles of Bute. Hillview Cottage was featured as one of the three best Scottish hideaways in the issue of the Observer Magazine on 26 August 2012 as part of a weekly travel feature called 'Joanne O'Connor's Great escapes'. It's also featured briefly on the Guardian website as part of the same article.
Tighnabruaich and it's adjoining neighbouring village of Kames are located on the Kyles of Bute at the southern tip of the Cowal peninsula, which lies between the Isle of Bute and the Kintyre / Campbeltown peninsula. The sheltered coastal waters and breathtaking scenery of the hidden peninsula combine to make the area an idyllic choice for people looking for tranquility and a peaceful getaway. There is no real throughput of traffic, people visit specifically as their destination, and the laid-back community feel of the peninsula is much akin to that of an island. The villages are approximately 2 hours from Glasgow, whether you chose the ferry route from Gourock over the Clyde estuary, and the drive past Loch Tarsan, Loch Striven and Loch Riddon, or the drive round past Loch Lomond, Loch Long, Loch Fyne and Loch Riddon; both journeys equally spectacular. The Scotsman newspaper identified the road from Glendaruel to Tighnabruaich as the best scenic drive in Scotland in its issue of 29 March 2007. The area is popular for bird watching, sailing, hill walking, rambling, cycling, sea kayaking, art, sea and fresh water fishing, (fresh water permits obtainable from the post office), etc. There are also facilities for tennis, golf (9 hole course with glorious views over the Kyles of Bute), sailing tuition at the Tighnabruaich Sailing School, etc. You can also catch a game of shinty on Saturday during the season, when you will see the legendary Kyles Athletic play. Only a few miles drive, and a subsequent walk will find you at Ostle Bay, a kilometer of white sands overlooking the North of the Island of Arran, or a few more miles to Auchalick Bay with it's beautiful lagoon and views over Loch Fyne to the Kintyre peninsula. The Waverley, the world's last ocean-going paddle steamer, docks at Tighnabruaich during summer months. Kames, and the adjoining village of Tighnabruaich, provide a range of services, including 2 supermarkets, 3 hotels with bars and restaurants, bistros, art and antique shops, 2 post offices, petrol filling station with car maintenance, hair dresser, massage, etc. The new Portavadie Swimmimg Pool provides swim/sauna/heated outdoor poor/outside spa/cafe and prices include all facilities, open 7 days. Ferry links from Portavadie to the Kintyre Peninsula and from Colintraive to the Isle of Bute provide excellent opportunities for exploring more of the region. The microclimate that subsists due to the prevailing Gulf Stream from the South West provides significantly more sunshine than Glasgow, and significantly less rain!

L’apartament estava net i còmode.
