WELCOME to a little piece of paradise. On an organic farm, bordering Cape Otway National Park, surrounded by trees, koalas, birds and other wildlife, is a unique, beautifully designed, eco-friendly "tiny-home", built from a shipping-container, and up-cycled building materials. It features a green-house bathroom with a hot tub surrounded by lush ferns and tropical flowers. Relax and rejuvenate your mind, body and soul. And explore the world famous attractions of the Great Ocean Road.
The Welcome-Swallow Hideaway, is situated on an acre of an organic farm, on the edge of the eucalypt and myrtle forest of the national park . The quiet and serenity, the beautiful views, the comfortable cosy living space and the abundance wildlife make it an excellent place to stay, and as a base to explore The Great Ocean Road, or holiday with family or friends, or to simply just escape the city and slow down.
A family of Koalas live in the trees of the national park, right next to the house. We also regularly see kangaroos, wallabies, possums, echidnas and many native birds. There are hiking trails just behind the cabin.
From every window in the cabin you can look out into the eucalypt forest, or out across the rolling green hills. The sunny north-facing deck provides stunning views over the Aire valley. Here on the edge of the wilderness, the air is so alive and fresh, that simply breathing feels like an act of self-care. You will feel a sense of calm, of being hugged by nature.
The cabin is designed from a shipping-container, which now serves as the bedroom, extended with recovered and new building materials, to produce a light-filled kitchen/dining /lounge area, and an amazing bathroom greenhouse.
The beds are comfortable and warm. The pot-belly fireplace heats up the home beautifully. The bathroom greenhouse is a living sanctuary of lush ferns, vines, flowers, terrariums, and pot plants. There is nothing better than a hot candle-lit bath or shower, amongst the greenery, looking up through the windows at the moon or starlit sky. The large hot-tub comfortably fits 2 (and can fit up to 4 adults), so make a night of it, and pamper yourself. We even have a towel warmer!
The kitchen is fully equipped for gourmet cooking and baking, for those who like to get creative in the kitchen. Espresso coffee maker and fresh ground coffee are provided, as well as milk, tea, sugar, cooking oil and some fresh herbs and medicinal teas from our herb garden. Appliances include refrigerator with freezer, gas stovetop, oven and grill, a rice-cooker, toaster, kettle and blender. We have all the kitchen utensils and baking dishes you are likely to need.
The home is designed to support the ecological values of our organic farm, and the pristine environment of the Otways. Choosing to stay in our eco-friendly accommodation allows you to enjoy a beautiful relaxing holiday while leaving no impact on the natural environment you have come here to enjoy.
The Welcome Swallow Hideaway has been a special project for my daughter and I. It is ecologically-friendly, comfortable and stylish, and now we want to share it with you. We named the cabin after a pair of Welcome-Swallows who made a mud-nest on the front porch during the summer, raising a family of 4 baby swallows. Their presence made us feel welcomed. We hope our guest will experience this same sense of welcome.
It is a very special place.
The location for tourists is ideal. A perfect base for exploring the Otways. We are 20 minutes drive from Apollo Bay with shops restaurants, a harbour and safe swimming beach. We are 90 minutes drive from the Twelve Apostles and historic Port Campbell, 30 minutes from Blanket Bay and the Cape Otway lighthouse, and right on the doorstep of some of the worlds most beautiful ancient temperate rainforests, waterfalls, glow-worm forest, hiking trails and world famous coastlines. We are within walking distance for those of you walking The Great Ocean Walk (60 minutes walk from Aire River), if you want to escape the cold weather and soak your tired legs in our hot-tub
