Uxmal or Óoxmáal is an ancient Mayan city from the classic period. It is located in the municipality of Santa Elena in the state of Yucatan, Mexico. Today it is one of the most important archaeological sites of the Mayan culture, along with those of Chichen Itza and Tikal.

The famous Maya site of Uxmal makes an easy day trip from Mérida. Located just 80 kilometers south of the city, it's widely considered to be one of the most beautiful Pre-Columbian sites in Mexico. Also worth seeing, and easy to include with a visit to Uxmal as it's located just a few minutes' drive outside the city center, the ancient site of Dzibilchaltún is popular for its cenote, a great place for a refreshing swim after a day of exploration.

An impressing pyramide! My tip, if you are going to see only one pyramide, I would choose Uxmal over Chichen Itza. 2 hours from here.
