Trailhead to moderately challenging hike to the top of Suicide Rock. The Deer Springs Trail begins on Hwy 243 one mile north of Idyllwild. The first 2.3 mile section is to a junction, take the cutoff trail to the right 1 mile to the top of Suicide Rock with panoramic views of Strawberry Valley and Idyllwild. This route starts in oak trees at 5,600 feet, ascending to 7,528 feet in the pines on top of Suicide Rock. Back at the junction of Deer Springs Trail and Suicide Trail, the trail to the left continues to San Jacinto Peak. Dogs are not allowed on this trail because it enters State Park Wilderness.

The Deer Springs Trail is a moderate to strenuous hike depending on how far you go on one of four maintained trails that climb up the west face of San Jacinto Peak. The others being Marion Mountain Trail, Seven Pines Trail, and the Fuller Ridge Trail. The Deer Springs trail starts on Highway 243, one mile north of Idyllwild, at an elevation of almost 5600 ft. If you are ready to experience some of the most beautiful hiking the Idyllwild area has to offer, grab your CamelBak, other Hydration Pack or Hydroflask and get out on the trail! Enjoy!

Suicide Rock via Deer Springs Trail is a 6.7 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Idyllwild-Pine Cove, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and running and is accessible year-round.
