Food Scene

Great drip coffee (no espresso drinks) and compelling menu for a simple, healthy, and gourmet breakfast or brunch. The atmosphere is perfect for brunch convos with friends, but you can enjoy people-watching from the window alone as well. Very vegetarian/vegan- friendly.

A cozy family-run coffee shop + diner with all the diner staples and a little Mexican touch. Plus, in case you are a smoothie snob like me, it might also be the only legitimate smoothie spot around.

Drinks & Nightlife

A little neighborhood bar with wonderful local draft beer selections and a patio. The cocktails are great (by great I might also mean, strong) too, and quite a steal compare to the cocktail pricing at places with a more vibrant nightlife such as lower Manhattan or Williamsburg.

Getting Around

This is the closest subway station with F/G train. If you are taking the downtown F/G train from Manhattan or Downtown Brooklyn (which you probably are), take the exit where the train is heading forward. The apartment will be only one and a half block away from this exit.

It's a public library (though only free to NY State residents) but also the closest zipcar access point!

Arts & Culture

The Engine Company 240, formerly Engine Company 40/ Hook & Ladder Company 21, was built in 1895 and has been serving the neighborhood for more than a century. It is one of eight firehouses designed by Danish immigrant and noted architect Peter J. Lauritzen for the Brooklyn Fire Department and is his finest in the Romanesque Revival Style.

Parks & Nature

If you are only in Brooklyn for a few days, don't miss the Prospect Park. Great for walking, jogging, biking, morning reading, turtle watching, and duck chasing. Oops, I take the last one back, please don't scare the duckies.
