This bakery is definitely worth the 7 min drive to downtown. If you like all things gluten, no matter where you are from and how good your local bakery is, this place will exceed your carbohydrate expectations. Closed Mon and Tues.

This is a local favorite in Spenard, serving up Vietnamese food and it is GOOD. A popular place that I frequent, especially when I am craving Pho.

This is the closest grocery store to the Birch House, but I try to not go here unless I have to. Prices are higher than Fred Meyers.

I drive the extra 5-6 min to get to Fred Meyer for my grocery shopping. I think the prices and produce are acceptable for Anchorage.

Now, if it is a weekend, or evening and I know Carrs and Fred Meyer are going to be a scene (best to avoid) I will often drive a bit out of my way and head to Sagaya for produce or deli items or even Kaladi coffee. It is a pleasure to be in this store, it just feels local and fun, as opposed to stressful.

Entertainment & Activities

The Bear Tooth is a unique popular place; order your food, it gets delivered while you watch a movie. They make their own beer, and the food menu is so extensive you might want to check it out online before you go. For movies, arrive at least 30 min before it starts, or make reservations.

Arts & Culture

Clearly the place to go - a huge, huge museum worth every moment you are there, plan to stay a couple of hours for sure. Their restaurant "Muse" isn't very popular- I would eat elsewhere, and there are many great places downtown to choose from.
