Sightseeing

We visit as often as we can, since it's nearby. A great place to walk on the sand, feel the surf wash over your feet, hear the waves and relax. Definitely not for swimming, though, unless you are a surfer. There is a strong riptide and the water is cold so be careful.

You could literally spend a full week here just exploring. Golden Gate Park has plenty of attractions like the De Young Museum, Academy of Sciences (a natural history, planetarium, aquarium, and science museum all in one), and the Japanese Tea Garden. GG Park also holds events and music festivals throughout the year like Outside Lands and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. And if you're just looking for a place to lay down on the grass and relax, there are spots everywhere.

One of the best trails in SF, in the nearby Richmond District. Not too long, but you will not see more dramatic views than here, including of the Golden Gate Bridge. There are points where the city completely disappears and all you have are the amazing water vistas. The hike can also start or end at Sutro Park, depending on which area you start, and is also highly recommended. Check out where the Sutro Baths (saltwater swimming pool) used to be until they were closed and nature took them back.
