Tobacco Caye is a tiny island in Belize, about 10 miles east of Dangriga. It is approximately three acres in area, shaped like an yam, with a north-south dimension of about 240 m and an east-west dimension of 125 metres.
It is TINY! but nevertheless, a beautiful spot to visit. It's mostly visited by European and NorthAmerican travelers looking for adventure, and to be off-the-beaten-path.
The island is right in the Belize Barrier Reef so its location is ideal for snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, and paddle boarding.

Conservation and Park Fees
Conservation and Park Fees
It's important to know the island is located within the boundaries of the South Water Caye Marine Reserve. Rangers from the Fishery Department collect park fees from all international visitors. Park fees are a small contribution to the conservation of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the seven protected areas that form the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System.
Fees are $5 per day or $15 per week.

Boats to/from the island
Getting to the island must be coordinated in advance.
All boats are small skiff open boats that accommodate 6-8 people. Boats belong to local fishermen, water taxi operators, and lodges.
Community boats are the cheapest way to get in/out of the island. A community (shared) boat requires 4 people to run.
Boats leave Dangriga between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm- Most boats depart from the Island Bar on Riverside Street. However, larger boats depart from Jetty Pier, a few miles outside the town center.
Boats depart the island at 9 am.

Scuba Diving
If you are a certified diver , you can dive at Tobacco Caye!
Rates start at $110 (2-tank dive). You can also request diving to Southwater Caye or Glover's (prices vary as you will need a boat to get there).
You can rent diving gear for only $25 per day - which is not included in the tank price.
If you have never scuba before, you can ask for a Discover Scuba tour, which is a great way to experience this adventure!
Scuba Dive certification is also available, you will need to study theory before traveling and you will need at least 3-4 days on the island.

Download movies on your devices (before travel)
Internet in Belize is not very fast, and satellite internet on the island can be a bit slower, depending on weather, and other factors out of our control. If you travel with children, make sure you download some movies on your device, as movie streaming is impossible... some people have tried (even when we tell them not to) and they end up crashing the entire network.
