Really awesome museum covering many aspects of African American History. It has a really nice gift shop offering typical museum gifts, but I really like the various literature for adults and children.

The Midway Plaisance, known locally as the Midway, is a public park on the South Side. It is one mile long by 220 yards wide and extends along 59th and 60th streets, joining Washington Park at its west end and Jackson Park at its east end. Overall, a really great place to read a book, go for a walk (I love it in the fall) go ice skating, play soccer (which you’ll see many doing), and just an open space to enjoy the greenery and architecture of the University of Chicago buildings at the same time.

Grocery and more.

Whether you’re here for a short or extended stay, grabbing a few grocery items is helpful. Here’s a list of my go to stores for grocery and the like.
Great all around grocery store that I frequent at least once a week. They have a huge assortment of alcohol, great produce & proteins, a pharmacy, and lots of self care items if you forgot to pack any (deodorant, mouthwash, etc). About 11 minutes from the home.

Jewel is a Chicago staple and will pretty much have everything you need from grocery to pharmacy. They don’t necessarily offer a lot of super specialty foods/organic fair like Marianos, Whole Foods, or Trader Joe’s, but are growing immensely in that sector. Just arrived and want to pickup some essentials for your stay or you realize you forgot your toothbrush and toothpaste? Jewel would be the best option being closest to the home being only 3 minutes away (5 max) in car.
