Constructed in 1795 of native limestone, the Shenandoah County Historic Courthouse is the oldest courthouse west of the Blue Ridge Mountains in continuous use. It saw much activity during the Civil War, with troops from both sides in and around the building and leaving their mark with graffiti on the interior walls. It is now used as a visitor's information center and a courtroom museum.

The Frontier Culture Museum is a very interesting place to learn about days gone by. Lots of outdoor exhibits give you a chance to see what daily life was really like for people adapting to the "New World". Various buildings have been brought in piece by piece and reassembled. There are buildings depicting the cultures of the English, Irish, German and West African cultures as they were carving out a living in the early days of VA. People are on-site dressed as the early settlers and performing tasks of the era for you to watch. In April there is also sheep-shearing to watch. Highly recommended by our family!

This site inaccurately says that this shop is closed permanently. The original shop in Strasburg is closed, but they have moved to a cute house in Woodstock on Main Street. We have brochures at our Inn that give the correct address. This is not an ordinary ice cream shop! Our family loves this place...friendly and personable, and a lot of options of ice cream. Large portions are the order of the day.

The historic town of Edinburg is special in many ways. Nestled in the foothills of the Massanutten Mountain, Edinburg exemplifies the quaint, small town heritage of the Shenandoah Valley. The German and Swiss were the first to settle here and knew the town as Shryrock (pronounced "shrike"). Edinburg refers to the idyllic, pristine atmosphere thought to be like that of the Garden of Eden. Edinburg is a central Valley location, so it played a major role in the Civil War, with frequent skirmishes in the immediate area. President Reagan's first CCC camp was in Edinburg. A special event in Edinburg is "The Ole Time Festival", held the 3rd full weekend of every September (since 1981). This includes all kinds of family fun like a parade, the annual amazing bed race, children's festival & petting zoo, hay rides, stony creek duck race, and lots more. Come visit Edinburg!

This is our family's favorite thrift store, hands down! They have a wide selection of items for sale, but we are especially hooked on their used book section (which is big). Good selection, great prices. There is a favorite coffee shop (Merge) and a restaurant (Bowl of Good) in the same parking lot.
