I'll be honest, in my previous life, I was a coffee snob and of all the roasters in the area, it was my opinion that Salto had the best beans. If you want a great cup of coffee with ethically sourced beans, then this is your spot. Added bonus...get the breakfast sandwich or breakfast burrito. Sean (the chef) will get you hooked and I promise you'll be coming back every morning for more.

Again, original location here, as they have a bigger spot in Boulder. Backcountry Pizza has much more traditional pies than Crosscut. They make huge pizzas with a variety of flavors. Great for takeout.

This trailhead is flooded by tourists throughout the warmer months. Since parking is limited, they have a shuttle that runs from the main RTD station in the heart of town. If you get there at 5 or 6am then you shouldn't have an issue getting parking, but yeah, we know, that's early. You can access the 4th of July Trail and Devils Backbone from this trailhead.

Yeah, you read that right. This area is home to Arapahoe Glacier which stands over 13,000 ft tall. Start this hike early and make sure you're well prepared with clothing, food, water, etc. If you don't know, then don't go. It's not a quick jaunt in the woods.

Another short drive, but totally worth it! This place has some amazing backpacking loops, as well as some great day hikes. If you're looking for epic views of the Indian Peaks, then this is the spot.

This trail system is a local favorite. If you're an avid mountain biker, then get in there and get lost (which actually can't happen as you'll pop out on a county road no matter where you end up). The NATO trail crew has made this a special place to ride and runners have now enjoyed these well maintained trails as well.

This is the main water source for Boulder, which is why you're not allowed to swim in this reservoir, but there is a great lakeside hike that follows the left portion of the water. If you're a fisherman, then you're in luck! You can still fish at the reservoir.

Barker Reservoir Recreation Area
27036 Boulder Canyon DrThis is the main water source for Boulder, which is why you're not allowed to swim in this reservoir, but there is a great lakeside hike that follows the left portion of the water. If you're a fisherman, then you're in luck! You can still fish at the reservoir.
Nederland is home to the only ski resort in the entire Front Range. Though Eldora is relatively small compared to the other, well-known, Colorado resorts, it comes equipped with its own Woodward center and is perfect for a ski day trip. From the house it’s only a five minute drive. The best snow is usually during the spring/summer months (March-June) but it’s a fun time no matter when you go. If you need gear, feel free to rent skis, boots, and helmets at Tin Shed Sports right downtown.
