Nearby Godrevy beach and lighthouse are directly on the South West Coast Path, just 25 miles from Newquay. Owned by the National Trust, it has over 3 miles of spectacular, unspoilt golden sands and is popular with surfers yet so vast & off the beaten track that it feels deserted at any time of year. If you like your beaches and waves all to yourself, with plenty of space for a game of family cricket or football, surfing or bodyboarding, rock pooling or just chillaxing, yet still protected by lifeguards in the summer season, this is the place. There is a cafe and ice cream van by the car park but it’s quite a walk from the beach so it’s highly recommended to bring your own packed lunch or BBQ.

This is a spectacular section of the South West Coast Path on the south Cornwall coast & highly recommended for a full day walk. Start from Caerhays beach car park next to Caerhays Castle, walk to the coast and head east to Dodman Point, choosing either an 8 or 12 mile walk. (Some strenuous ascents and descents.)

Something of a hidden gem, Pendennis Castle is a well preserved little C16th castle made of Cornish granite, located on a headland above Falmouth, on the south Cornwall coast. Owned and maintained by English Heritage, it was built by Henry VIII nearly 500 years ago to defend against anticipated European invasion. Tourists flock to Tintagel instead, because of the King Arthur legend, but there is much more castle to see here, much better preserved & without the tourists, queues and traffic congestion that sometimes occurs during peak summer season around Tintagel. There’s also more to visit nearby too, with Falmouth & the National Maritime Museum just a few minutes’ walk down the hill from the castle. Check the timings to catch the excellent free castle tours, usually at 10.30, 11.30 & 12.30 most days.

Highly recommended seafood eatery located in the centre of the famous fishing village, it is more of a modern informal restaurant than a cafe. The Seafood Cafe in St Ives is a particular favourite for sit down, high quality meals with a short but excellent main menu and a similar number of additional daily specials. Arguably the best fish and chips in Cornwall! Very popular, so please book ahead.
