Matauri Bay Beach is two minutes drive down the hill from the cottage.
This is the perfect white sandy beach, really safe for swimming, and when the surf is up excellent surf & boogy boarding can be had.

Piapia Beach is another three minutes past Te Ngaere. Sheltered east facing sandy beach with ancient Pohutukawas to retreat under and good rock pools for exploring at low tide. Excellent swimming beach.
You park on the road and walk across a reserve. This is iwi land, with beach access lovingly shared, respect as with all beaches and leave no trace.

1611 Wainui RoadPiapia Beach is another three minutes past Te Ngaere. Sheltered east facing sandy beach with ancient Pohutukawas to retreat under and good rock pools for exploring at low tide. Excellent swimming beach.

A few minutes past Piapia pull into the parking paddock and cross the stream by foot. This is a north facing fine pebble and sand beach that drops away quite deep. Excellent for swimming all tides. Good rock & beach fishing, plus ancient pohutukawa’s are magnificent for climbing and sleeping under.
