More history in our neighborhood! -This Church sits on the original site of Fort Cumberland (1754). -The Fort was the military and economic center during the French and Indian War. -Tunnels beneath the church are all that remains of Fort Cumberland. -The tunnels originally served to store perishable food and gunpowder and to give safe passage for British soldiers to reach their defenses along Will's Creek. 100 years later, the same tunnels served to help escaping slaves reach the church to get them to the Underground Railroad Station. -Tours of the tunnels as well as the Church (including original Louis Tiffany stain glass windows) can be arranged on the Church's website
