A moderate climb takes you up to some of the most beautiful views of the Champlain Valley and Lake Champlain. Hike a steady incline all the way up the West Trail to the winding Summit Trail towards the top of Snake Mountain. The West Trail starts perpendicular to Mountain Road in Addison, VT, then takes a 90-degree bend towards the peak. The end of the West Trail flattens out a little before joining the Summit Trail, which becomes steeper and winds back and forth up the ridge. This path up Snake Mountain was formerly used as a stage coach road for the Grand View Hotel, which burned down in 1925. The foundation of the hotel is still visible and makes for a nice flat spot overlooking the farmland in the area.
