Sightseeing

It's great to walk the grounds, visit the home of Mabel and John Ringling (tickets are needed for guided tours of the home) but the grounds are free to walk around. The circus museum is a wonderful place for children and adults alike.

Outdoor Activities

The Legacy Trail is an old rail line that has been turned into a bike/walk path. If you come with your bikes or rent some you will need to drive to one of the access points. If you are an avid cyclist you can wind your way through the street bike lanes to an access point. We usually bike from Sarasota to Venice and have lunch in downtown Venice and ride back. About 30 miles round trip from the house or 20 miles if you ride to an access point that puts you directly on the trail.

We recommend taking an eco kayak or paddle board trip with this outfitter. You need only to call and make reservations and then meet the outfitter at designated drop in - We recommend taking a guided tour of the Mangroves on Lido. This trip is suitable for children. It's a great half day of kayaking and learning about the marine and bird life of Sarsota. Often you will kayak near Dolphins and Manatee's. Bald eagles, Osprey, Spoonbills and other birds are abundant. They also rent bikes, e-bikes, scooters etc. Tell Scotty we said hi and you may get friends and family discount.

Cars, bikes and walking are best ways to travel.

We are located close enough to walk or bike to downtown and the Bayfront - however, to take all beach chairs etc., a car if best. There are buses and Uber but car, bike and walking are best. We provide use of 2 bikes to our guests.

Downtown Saturday Farmers Market is fun for everyone!

There is a Farmers Market every Saturday in downtown Sarasota. Streets are blocked off for vendors and guests. Great place for fresh fruit, veggies, fresh fish, and food vendors and drinks. Hint: Winter is when fresh fruits and veggies are plentiful!

Take a Walk in the Neighborhood

An after dinner walk or bike ride in our neighborhood (or anytime) in any direction to view the homes from original bungalows to new builds, see the history of our town. Neighbors are out strolling as well and everyone says "hi". If you walk out of our home take a right and walk towards Osprey Ave, then take a right and 4 blocks down you will come to a shopping /dining district (near Sarasota Memorial Hospital) called Southside shopping district. In the morning walk down and have coffee at the Perc or Morton's Gourmet Market and check out the pastries.

Want to take a nice walk/run in the area?

Take a left out of the driveway and walk towards Orange Ave, (mornings our neighbor on Orange has a bubble machine) make a right and then a left by Selby Gardens (Orange to Mound Ave) and walk/bike along the Bayfront Path. There is a playground, Tiki Bar, stand to rent paddle boards, Kayaks, etc., and Marina. Continue your walk/run and head over the Ringling Causeway. From our home over the Causeway and back is about 5 miles - ambitious, keep going over the Causeway and walk/run into St. Armand's Circle and have breakfast at the Green Zebra (very healthy food) or the Blue Dolphin Cafe.
