things to do

these are some of my favourite things to do around Hove and Brighton
even after the cold i360 was put in its face in 2016, and made the area less peaceful, this spot remains one of my favourite for photography in different lights. grab a coffee at the tiny take away Beach Cafe in the arches (Small Batch quality), and take it to sit on the pebbles near the pier and admire this beautifully sad, poetic, eerie remainder of a classical pier that had a ballroom, a tea room, and style I believe.

just step outside and find the entrance to the park walking up Furze Hill...it is a peaceful place (unless 3pm when school's out), with many trees, a pond, an LGBTQ memorial, tennis court, benches and a cafe.

best for shopping, lots of independent shops, look for Sydney Street, Kensington Gardens, and there's a flea market in Upper Gardiner Street and the area on Saturdays. Check out Snoopers Paradise in Kensington Gardens for lots of lovely vintage or just old stuff.

take the 77 bus from Brighton Station to Devil's Dyke for a walk on the South Downs, and amazing views, just half an hour to beautiful countryside; there is a pub with food where the bus stops, and buses are frequent enough. remember to take a jacket - the weather can be quite different and more windy up there.

Take the bus (Nr 2) to Shoreham, to visit the old little town centre and church (market on Saturdays), walk over the footbridge to Shoreham Beach (with unique vegetation and flowers, and line of some unique houses too), walk along the estuary to see lots of quirky house boats / ships. Shoreham was an alternative community already in the 1930s, with film makers and artists.
