Drinks & Nightlife

Great bar with very good kitchen, elevated pub fare. Indoor/outdoor seating. Speakeasy-themed interior. Good service. A 'classy pub'. Interestingly, often inhabited by very attractive people (?!)

Good bar w/ vegan menu. VERY popular happy hour/weekend nite spot. Interesting Portland hang; clientele dangerously straddles line between hip and hipster. Patio. When uber-busy, kitchen gets slowww.

Quintessential neighborhood hangout. Just a local bar with local folk, but a nice establishment. Good beer & ciders on tap, a very fun Trivia Tuesday (8PM), a good place to pretend you're a homie.

The best live-music dance spot in the entire city. Live bands 2-3 nights a week, good DJ's other nights. Always a fun scene; no attitude, just folks having a good time. Music in the basement.

A complete DIVE. The Cafe and Bar are connected to one another. Just a good example of a local, old, decrepit establishment. Decent cafe food, often horrible wall art, and plenty o' Portland color.

Nothing to recommend it at all. A local sports bar. Completely funky, run-down. A real hole. Drunks. One sign misspelled. TV's. Pool, video poker. Also a popular n-hood joint, for whatever reason.....

Food Scene

Funny that two of the few GOOD Pizza joints here have NY connections. Coincidence ? I think not. NY-style pizza: nice BIG, oily slices; combo specials, cheap beer, friendly staff, outdoor seating.

Portland doesn't do good Pizza. A known fact. BUT this place is run by a native NY'er (like George !) who knows his stuff. Hybrid east-west coast style, crispier crust, interesting toppings. Yum.

A basic, right-up-the-alley, middle-eastern place. Large menu. Nothing fabulous, but everything is good; made fresh, and when you have the jones for middle-eastern, this place will do ya well.

A very typical local cafe, and this one is actually STILL local, hasn't been bought out yet. Good home-roasts, a nice hang with a side garden. Made famous by the 'Portlandia' "Baseball Team" episode.
