Food Scene

Really awesome roastery and coffee shop. Great coffee beans, good wifi, nice atmosphere, located in a re-purposed elementary school that now houses a bunch of cool shops.

A hole in the wall restaurant and market serving authentic Egyptian food. They give you a free cup of yummy tea. I particularly love the Bamia (Okra) dish which is a tomato stew with okra and lamb on rice. Not fancy at all, but good food and people.

Such a unique coffee place with wifi!! They serve lots of loose leaf teas, hummus and pita, and coffee and are open till 9 pm. It's Orthodox christian themed, so they have a bunch of interesting books and usually play Orthodox chants in the background. They aren't proselytizing--it's just a cool atmosphere and different from other coffee places you may have experienced.

Shopping

This is my favorite grocery store. TJ's is a great place to get picnic food from because they have a wide selection of packaged salads and rolls. And, you can get free plastic cutlery from them at the check out counter. They also have great cheeses and a large selection of frozen entrees if you just want something quick. If you want a cool picnic, grab food here and then hike to the top of Pulpit Rock which is a short hike and just a few minutes from TJ's. Warning to people from out of state: Trader Joe's in Colorado Springs does not sell any alcohol. :(

1 of the 2 closest grocery store to me. I don't often shop here, but it has all the usual groceries and is open late.

Parks & Nature

This is a short but neat hike to the top of Pulpit rock. It is a good alternative if you see rain on the Front Range but it isn't raining in the city yet. It has a great view and is also perfect for a picnic. Down side: no restrooms :(

One of the most iconic places in Colorado Springs. It is free access. There are walking paths, hiking paths, visitor centers, rock climbing routes, and also just a road loop you can drive around if you don't have much time.

Entertainment & Activities

Take the cog train up Pikes Peak! Alternatively, you can also drive up Pike's Peak which is a hoot or for the adventurers, hike up Pike's Peak on the Barr trail. The top, over 14,000 ft elevation, has a donut shop! I'm not kidding :P

USAFA! This is a military base and a college campus. There is a visitor center you can visit and the cadet chapel is open to the public. Non-DOD ID holders must go to the North Gate entrance (even though the South Gate is closer to my place). I'm a graduate of the Academy so if you have any question, feel free to ask. There is also decent fishing and hiking on base. My favorite is Eagle's Peak.
