If it’s Italian you are after, your options in Little Italy are endless but for something less touristy try Epistrophy at 200 Mott Street located just outside of the area.

We are a short walk from the East Village where you will find many more places to eat and drink but our absolute favourite is Café Mogador for Moroccan cuisine located at 101 Saint Marks Place.

Sightseeing

One of our absolute favourite things to do in New York is to ride the Staten Island Ferry for free! Anything for free in New York is still a novelty to us! It gives you great views of the skyline of downtown Manhattan and you get close(ish) to the Statue of Liberty. It goes every half hour from the Staten Island Ferry Whitehall Terminal Greenmarket and you can catch the next one straight back to Manhattan as you exit on the other side.

A tour of the Tenement Museum is an absolute must since you are staying in the heart of one of New York’s oldest and most historic districts. This guided tour of an 1863 preserved tenement building brings Lower East Side immigrant stories to life!

Getting Around

We would recommend getting a weekly subway card pass for $32. The F/M/J/Z trains are one block away from our apartment at the Delancey/Essex Station. It’s an easy walking distance accessible via Norfolk Street and/or Essex Street. The station has a direct line (F+M) uptown to Manhattan midtown, Times Square, Empire State Building, Central Park etc. and one stop away from trendy Williamsburg, Brooklyn over the East River. You can also catch the Z train downtown to the financial district to visit Wall Street, the 9/11 Memorial Plaza etc.
