Parks & Nature

This is a beautiful, easy hike to a waterfall with cultural sites and various botanical gardens to explore. It also has a great gift shop and there is a 'Farmer's Market' on Thursdays 2-5 or 3-6 depending on the time of year. The Farmer's Market has a few local farmers selling produce, several different vendors of prepared food and all kinds of hand made gifts.

Keep an eye out for yellow ropes up across from the Rainbow Castle - Honey Girl, our resident Monk Seal likes to rest on the beach here. When she's on the beach there will be a volunteer close by who can tell you lots about Hawaiian Monk Seals as they make sure she isn't disturbed.

A nine minute walk from our front door will bring you to the trail head of this somewhat challenging loop. Bring water and carriers for little ones - it'll be about a 2 hour hike. (This is actually in Hauula, I'm not sure why it's showing up as Laie)

A few minutes past the trail head for Hauula Loop you'll see our local art gallery that changes periodically. Opposite the graffiti wall is the Ma'akua Ridge trail. A 2.5 mile loop trail with amazing views - sometimes we just go up to the ridge for the view and go back home, which takes a half hour to 45 minutes depending on who's walking. The whole loop can take 2+ hours. (This is actually in Hauula, I'm not sure why it's showing up as Laie)

There is plenty of parking if you don't want to walk - head across the big grassy area to get to the beach - our favorite spot for our kids to swim, Alligator Pond, is off to the far right a little ways down the beach.
