Parks & Nature

Peaceful park offering great views of the city and boasts the longest cascading fountain in North America. Fun fact: the statue of Joan of Arc at the top of the steps is the only female equestrian statue in DC.

Great upscale diner-like vibe serving generous portions of tasty comfort food. They also serve boozy milkshakes if you're so inclined. Their pastries and cakes are baked on site and worth a walk by just to drool at the window.

Spacious local coffee shop with great locally roasted coffee (Compass Coffee), chill atmosphere, strong wifi, and great music. There's also a large outdoor terrace for sitting outside when the weather is nice.

If you find yourself around this neighborhood (or make a point of going), don't miss the chance to visit La Colombe. I fell in love with their coffee in Philly, and I'm so glad it's come to DC. A must-try is the draft latte, which is a creamy, dense, more filling cup of coffee than I've ever had anywhere else. Perfect on a hot day when you're looking to cool off with something superior to a watered-down over-iced coffee. Great pastries here as well. Also, they offer free, unlimited sparkling water so bring your bottle.

Arts & Culture

Known as America's first modern art museum, this private museum houses an incredible array of Renoir's, O'Keefe's, and van Gough's work. I love the space as it's in an old mansion right off of Dupont Circle so you feel like you're visiting someone's (very beautiful) home.

This is my favorite Smithsonian as it's a manageable size and there are always really interesting photography exhibits (ex. Time's Celebrity Covers or Babe Ruth). A must-see in their permanent exhibit is Lincoln's life mask. Also, be sure to spend a little time in the Kogod Courtyard, which is a huge glass-ceilinged sanctuary where you can relax before or after your visit.
