In January 2010, a/perture cinema opened as a small two-screen art house cinema with the purpose of showcasing independent, foreign, documentary, local and festival films. At the time of opening, a/perture became a destination for non-commercial and artistic films that were not offered elsewhere in Winston-Salem and the surrounding communities. Located in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem, a/perture revived the theatrical experience in the central business district. Over the past seven years, a/perture has become a space to enjoy and celebrate art on film while fostering social capital and shared experiences. In 2013, a/perture expanded to add two additional screening rooms. Open 365 days

"Great pizza!" We love the downtown location of this restaurant. After a good meal it's nice to be able to take a nice stroll through downtown. We enjoy eating outdoors and they do have outdoor seating but beware! The seating is very close to the road so there is noise.

Our favorite romantic setting with great food. Willow's Bistro is a traditional American farm-to-table bistro. Chef Norbert Cooper and Will Kingery created it in 2009. The restaurant has a specialized menu based on farm-fresh ingredients and daily produce. Willow's Bistro has an indoor and outdoor seating area. It is nestled in a wooden hut with small staircases and wooden stages. A live band performs jazz and classic American music during lunch and dinner hours. Willow's Bistro is beautifully decorated in tropical theme with fresh flowers and plants.

Best breadfasts in town in an artsy neighborhood. Welcome to Mary’s Gourmet Diner. We opened our restaurant on June 4, 2010, but we’ve actually been around for a while. This culinary adventure officially began in June 2000, with the opening of a little place called Mary’s Of Course!, a family-owned and run café that served breakfast and lunch 6 days a week. It had come to Mary’s attention that fresh food made from scratch and assembled while you wait, were practically novel ideas to many people.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Even though it's a new store, the Mast General Store in downtown Winston-Salem has an old, country store vibe. Downtown Winston-Salem has a lot of restaurants, bars and a few boutiques, but this store will give the shopping scene a whole new dimension. Mast General carries clothes, trinkets, toys, foods such as jams and jellies and, of course, their incredible candy collection. The store carries more than 500 different candies.
