Known locally as the Lawn Market, the High Street and the Cannongate Leading from the Castle to the Palace of Holyrood the Royal Mile is home to many superb attractions and historical buildings such as The Real Mary King’s Close and St Giles’ Cathedral plus a variety of independent artisan shops selling traditional tartan, Scottish cashmere and delicious foods and drinks. There are also some of the best eating and drinking spots in the city including the famous Witchery Restaurant and the new Cannon Ball very close to the Castle to Angels with Bagpipes half-way down and Wedgewood and the Toll Booth Tavern at the bottom of the mile. Take some time to explore the close’s (small pedestrian streets) and you will find some hidden gems like The Devils Advocate on Advocate’s Close and real authentic old pubs like The Halfway House and Jingling Geordies on Fleshmarket Close.
