Piazza Statuto è una delle piazze più importanti della zona centrale della città sabauda. La conformazione architettonica ricorda quella di altre piazze del capoluogo piemontese, con ampi portici lungo il suo perimetro. Ha forma allungata e da essa dipartono molte strade: via Luigi Cibrario, corso Francia, che in epoca romana era il tratto iniziale della strada per le Gallie, e via Garibaldi, che era il decumanus maximus della città romana Julia Augusta Taurinorum, la via più antica di Torino, un tempo nota come via Dora Grossa. Già dall'epoca romana questa parte occidentale della città, dove tramonta il sole e iniziano le tenebre, fu considerata una zona infausta.
