Sightseeing

For a breathtaking view of the Peace River Valley, this is one of two easily-accessible and iconic photo opportunites. Gaze at the junction of the Peace and Smoky Rivers with the townsite below. If you don't mind an uphill walk with some stairs at the end, you can access the gravesite by following 100th Avenue all the way to the concrete blocks at the end of Township Rd 834B; otherwise you'll need to take the back way past the Fairgrounds. http://mightypeace.com/places/sights-experiences/12-foot-davis-site/

Bring a picnic lunch or just take a drive up Judah Hill for a wonderful view of the River valley and the townsite below. "Sagitawa" is a Cree word meaning "where the rivers meet." Once you get to the top of the hill, you'll know exactly why the lookout is so named! http://mightypeace.com/places/sights-experiences/sagitawa-lookout/

Parks & Nature

If you have several hours to spare on a beautiful summer day, consider renting a kayak or canoe and float leisurely down the Peace River. Henry Vos supplies everything and will even pick you up at the end of your trip and bring you back to your vehicle. Pack a light picnic lunch and plan to stop on one of the islands for a snack and bathroom break on your very own secluded beach. The scenic drive down Shaftesbury Trail to get to his place is beautiful as well. http://www.peacerivercanada.com/

We are so lucky to be nestled in the valley. The hills abound with hiking trails, some of which are clearly marked, others which are better known by the locals (and the wildlife). You can get information at the Tourist Information booth or Community Services, but your best bet might be to put out a Facebook post on Peace River Trails and Tales and a friendly resident will surely respond with a hiking suggestion which will demonstrate why we love our little town. https://www.facebook.com/groups/450865438587457/

Only a few minutes out of Peace River lies this little gem of a park. In the summer you can go fishing in one of the two small lakes and walk along the forest trails. In the winter, those same trails make for excellent snowshoeing or simply getting outdoors on foot. It's a nice family-friendly, quick and easy change-of-pace excursion. http://mightypeace.com/places/campgrounds/wilderness-park/

Arts & Culture

Peace River has a rich history of fur traders, pioneers, and indigenous culture. Our local museum is a great place to learn about the area and purchase some hand-crafted souvenirs. The 5.3 km trail which follows the river from the north to south ends of town passes right by the museum.

Entertainment & Activities

Peace River used to have a thriving local theatre scene, and although Peace Players isn't as active as it was a decade or two ago, we still put on some pretty decent shows. The hall is also used for dance recitals and other productions requiring a full stage and theatre lighting. The hall has a rich history going back almost a century ... some people even say the building is haunted!
