Saint George's Castle can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. Its oldest parts date from the 6th century, when it was fortified by the Romans, Visigoths, and eventually the Moors. The castle and the city of Lisbon were freed from Moorish rule in 1147 by Portugal's first king, Afonso Henriques. According to the legend, the knight Martim Moniz, noticing that one of the doors to the castle was open, prevented the Moors from closing it by throwing his own body into the breach, thus allowing Christian soldiers to enter at the cost of his own life. You can walk there from the flat.

The Jerónimos Monastery is one of the most visited sites in Lisbon. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1983. The religious building was constructed to commemorate the return of Vasco da Gama from India. The construction began on 6 January 1501 and wasn’t completed until the 17th century. The building is predominantly Manueline style (Portuguese late Gothic). You can catch a 20' train from Cais do Sodré to Belém. Try to make it a day trip since it is also worth visiting the Belem Tower and the Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries), as well as the National Coach Museum (Museu Nacional dos Coches) and the Pasteis de Belém pastry shop.
