Sightseeing

The first time I visited the Black Canyon, I was surprised that it just seemed to show up out of nowhere. You get to the first viewpoint and stop and it takes your breath away. It's just a few minutes away from Montrose and well worth your time. We like to pack a picnic lunch and go to our favorite viewpoints. There are short walks to viewpoints or long walks, depending on your time and what you hope to see. During the winter you can only see a couple of viewpoints but you can also rent snow shoes and hike in pure beauty!

City/town information

You've got to park at Mountain Village and take the FREE gondola to Telluride. It is one trip you won't want to miss. With world famous skiing, film festival and the blues & brews, you are sure to find something you'll enjoy. Walking around Telluride has wonderful shops and restaurants. My two favorite places to eat are Brown Dog Pizza (family friendly) and Cosmopolitan (a classy night out on the town). There are great hikes and waterfalls and of course great 4x4 trails.
