Sightseeing

A great day out for kids (and adults). You park at the station and get a train to an area with more miniature railways, boating lake with pedalos, soft play, crazy golf, adventure playground and trampolines. Everything is free once you’ve paid to get in. Loads of room for kids to run free. I would recommend going on a dry day to get the maximum out of your visit. But if the weather does change they have a big indoor soft play. There is a cafe but we usually take a picnic. Only 12 minutes drive from Newquay.

Park in Wadebridge and hire bikes (book in advance), then cycle along the Camel Trail to Padstow. Takes about 40 minutes each way to cycle, the trail is a flat, wide path, safe for smaller riders. We love to have fish and chips in Padstow and potter around the shops before cycling back to Wadebridge.

Cornish Wave Surf School is our favourite for surfing lesson and coasteering, both classic Cornish activities for older kids (8+) and adults. Surfing lessons are lots of fun, and there is coasteering for the more adventurous (for confident swimmers only). You basically traverse along the water’s edge on one of Newquay's craggy headlands, doing deep water jumps, (easy) rock climbing, and explore whirlpools, gullies and caves.

The Eden Project is somewhere to tick on your bucket list, the biomes from the entrance is impressive to see and great for pictures. The best part by far is the Rainforest Biome, which is the biggest indoor rainforest in the world! The food in the café is mainly grown onside and is super tasty (but also very price.) About 30 minutes drive away.

If the sun is shining you must go to the Fern Pit Café for lunch, or even just a cream tea. Set in amazing gardens overlooking the estuary and Crantock beach. Expect to be greeted by lobster pots and fishing gear as the café is run by a family of fishermen, so unsurprisingly their crab sandwich is amazing. Open 10am – 6pm.

Gilmore's serve authentic Mexican food. This place is very small so I’d advise booking (01637 872995). Opening hours are seasonal so check ahead.
