Sightseeing

A lovely drive out either across Ferry Nab or via Ambleside, both by car. Once there park in the National Trust car park and take a leisurely walk around beautiful scenery. Take a map and extend your walk, a lovely place for a picnic, take your own as there isn’t a cafe or shop there. Mainly stoned paths, so good if wet or has rained recently. (Little or no mud). Toilets in the car park and often an ice cream van.

Walk with a hill.

Drive to Ambleside and this circular walk with a hill is a couple of hours or so dependant on your pace.
Great hike, 2-3 hours, take your waterproofs and a picnic or a Pasty from the Cornish pasty shop in Bowness. You’ll need to drive to Grasmere and park. Head out of Grasmere across the main road you arrived from and pass the Wordsworth museum on your left, follow the road up half a mile and as it gets steeper there is a path off to your left. Take a map and follow the path upward through gates and keep going, great views from the top, walk past the tarn (on your right) and follow the path down to Grasmere, cross the main road head right and then turn left in to the village, near the church is a treat!! Sarah Nelsons ginger bread shop selling their secret recipe of gingerbread since 1854 and dressed in period clothing, this tiny shop is a must. In the grave yard next door lies William Wordsworth and Grasmere is surely a quintessentially English place to wander, shop, or eat at one of the cafes, if you’ve never been, you’ll love it.
