Big Basin Redwoods SP is more popular, has more trails whilst Portola Redwoods SP is more secluded and has less traffic. Both have giant redwoods thousands of years old. Banana slugs/wildlife can be sighted in Portola more easily. You can also see the ruins from the infamous CA wildfires. Redwoods are actually quiet fire resistant, they can survive fires because their bark is so thick and acts as a fireproof shell. Fascinating fact, isn’t it?

When water levels rise above 440 feet, water starts spilling down the hole and into Putah Creek, hundreds of feet below.The opportunity to see it in action, draws thousands of people to the southern end of Lake Berryessa.
