Even in the French Quarter, you gotta know where to find a great hamburger. The burgers here come with a baked potato. MMM MMM

Maspero's is relatively inexpensive--good place for sandwiches. Po' boys (our version of a subway) or try a muffaletta (I don't know of any equivalent anywhere!)--layers of meats and cheeses with an olive tapilade. The muffaletta can serve at least 2 unless you want left overs.

Not in the Quarter but an easy ride by bus down Esplanade. Some of my favorite food anywhere.

So, first off, we call one section the French Market and then as you continue walking, we call it the Flea Market. Used to be at the Flea Market you would see tables with people's garage sale items. Now, it's mostly knock off purses, etc. But there are some good souvenir items--t-shirts, posters/prints, etc. At the French Market, there's food--both open air diner type and stalls with produce, etc.

Of course, there's also food, but I go mostly for the bands. Standing Room Only unless you get there very early and are lucky enough to snag one of the few stools.

Spanish Plaza is a little outside of the French Quarter, but still easy to walk to. It is on the river and at one of the entrances of a shopping mall. Spanish Plaza hosts outdoor concerts and other entertainments. Even if there isn't anything formal planned, it is fun to sit at the fountain or to walk along the river.

I tried to enter Moon Walk, but it didn't come up. So, I entered one of the areas where you can get onto Moon Walk. This is a promenade along the river. Goes from Spanish Plaza or thereabouts (past Canal) to the French Market (not far from Esplanade). Watch the river traffic. Watch the people strolling along. It's hard to describe without making it sound boring, but I have never found it so.

Parks & Nature

City Park is not in the Quarter but it is an easy bus ride down Esplanade. New Orleans Museum of Art is at the front of City Park. There is also the botanical gardens, tennis courts, and much more. The grounds are huge. Lights are strung for Christmas season (gorgeous!!) and in early 2016, they did Chinese lights--I really hope they do that annually.
