The other Barcade in Raleigh. Smaller than Boxcar, but closer to the heart of downtown. Pro-tip, ask the bar tender for a menu. You can have food sent up from Vrgil's Original Taqueria downstairs.

Iconic no frills small hot dog joint which was featured on Food Network. George, the proprietor, grew up in the place and inherited it from his father. His mother still runs the cash register and flips hot dogs on the 1940's era grill. You have two choices, your coke:dog ratio and hot burnt you want them. If you ask for Ketchup, you will be shown the door. One of the few places you will see blue collar workers sitting next to State Senators at the bar. Get there early, the place seats fewer than 10 at a time. Enjoy your complimentary tootsie roll on the way out.

Sightseeing

Oldest house in the county (ext. 1769). Joel Lane was a farmer that donated all the land to build the capital city of Raleigh. A great spot for colonial culture, or if you are in town over July 4th, and have no phobias to fifes or buckle shoes.

Look up dive bar in the dictionary, you will find Slims. Cheapest drinks downtown, they only serve shots and can beer. The carpet is likely damp from a spill, there are dents in the walls from the random metal show which took place on the tiny strange the night before, the pool tables are uneven, old school trough in the men's bathroom, and a smoke filled back patio where the AC units blow constant hot air in your face. My god it's just perfect! http://www.slimsraleigh.com/
