Hiking

Will be the most populated trail but some of the best views. Most tourists only go as far as the cave which is directly at the trailhead....the trails interconnect for miles if you want a solid day hike and becomes much less populated immediately after the main trailhead.

My favorite hike. The upper rim is about 2 miles (moderate) and offers incredible views of the gorge. The lower trail is entirely flat/easy and offers caves and waterfalls.

Nice and less secluded alternative to Old Mans Cave (although less attractive views). Heavily wooded trails which are not heavily trafficked. Offers switchbacks and good for a peaceful hike.

Lake Hope is a great alternative (about 40 minute drive from the cabin). The Peninsula Trail is an easy 3 mile loop with great views of the lake. You can rent Kayaks on the lake which is fun. Highly recommend!

Food scene

A must visit if you like to wine and whine. Nice patio with fire pit and views of the forest. Cheese plates as well. Ohio is by no means famous for quality wine but I find the Malbec acceptable. Still fun and people love the wine slushy’s in a variety of flavors. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Great “finer dining” experience in Hocking Hills. The guests love this place for a nice meal out. If you are looking for a proper meal experience this place is worth checking out. I recommend calling them for a reservation. Finer food and wine.

Nice vibe. Friendly staff. Good BBQ and very solo and group/family oriented. It’s a local restaurant with a chain vibe. I eat here. It’s one of the better options in Logan. Enjoy!

If you like kitsch, worlds LARGEST washboard (and second largest). Washboards are now mostly used as instruments but the museum is a fun quirky experience. This place exports washboards all over the world to musicians.

For a spooky and quirky alternative, check out the dried up town of Haydenville and the “haunted” ceramic tunnel. Haydenville was home to a successful ceramic brick manufacture in the early 1900. The local company owned all houses in the town for the workers, made of the manufactured bricks and all with near identical footprint. The ceramic tunnel (also lined with the manufactured bricks) was built for ease of mining and is said to be haunted 👻. It’s closed off you can still see the entrance. Yo can still see the entrance. Something silly to do if you have extra time. To find the tunnel take 33 to Haydenville Rd exit and turn left. After about a mile turn left on Howard Rd (gravel rd). Park after about 800 ft and you will see a grass path which leads to the tunnel. If you have time to burn and like a good ghost story check it out. https://www.ohioexploration.com/structures/haydenvilletunnel/
