Nearby Holmes Lake Park for nice walk and outdoor activity. Similarly only 3.5 miles away is the Children's Zoo. At the university you can attend a game at Memorial Stadium or spend several hours at the Historical Museum called Morrill Hall to see prehistoric Mammoth bones and modern exhibits in the newly opened floor.
This university museum provides the best experience to learn about Nebraska from prehistoric to contemporary times including the best wooly mammoth collection in the USA. Also try the planetarium for exciting movie in 4D! It is conveniently located on the university campus with on street metered parking or downtown parking garages nearby in walking distance.

Seeing the Huskers play at Memorial Stadium is a lifetime experience. The townhouse is a short 5 miles/15 minute drive but I recommend parking on the outskirts of campus, and just walking a mile so you can avoid the heavy traffic of parking when arriving and trying to leave at the end of the game. My recommended directions to the campus and free parking spots. From driveway turn left on Allendale drive and go 30 yards north to Pioneers Blvd. Turn left/west on Pioneers and go one block to 33rd street. Right turn north on 33rd St. and go about 1 mile to roundabout in which Sheridan Blvd runs NW/SE. Enter roundabout and go around 3/4 before entering Sheridan Blvd going NW and drive 3/4 mile or so to 27th Street which runs N/S. Turn right/north on 27th St. and drive north about 2 miles to "O" Street which is the main four-lane street that runs through downtown Lincoln business district. Get in left turn lane from 27th street and turn left/west on "O" Street and stay in right lane. Drive west on "O" Street takes you into downtown Lincoln and just south of the university campus. If you want to park for free instead of paying from $10-$25 for entering a city parking garage or any parking lot that may be congested, you can turn right/north onto N. 22nd street and park on either side of the street next to the curb. Or you could try N. 20th Street next to Union Bank & Trust to park on the street. From this location you will have to walk about 1+ mile to the stadium but many people will be doing the same thing. Also you should walk through the Student Union at 14th & R Streets if you want to stop for fast food at a good food court or cup of coffee. Many jumbo TVs and Husker fans wearing Big Red colors will be there. The stadium is about a 5 minute walk from the Student Union.

Since the zoo is very close to the townhouse, it is an ideal place to visit for families with children, singles, or anyone who wants to enjoy a nice day at the zoo. It is so close--3.5 miles [Allendale, take Pioneers one block west to 33rd St, north a mile on 33rd St. to roundabout at Sheridan Blvd., take Sheridan northwest to 27th Street, at 27th St. drive north about 1.5 miles to Zoo entrance on right side.]

Tina's has the best cinnamon rolls in Lincoln that are gigantic and tasty. Open only for breakfast and lunch but it is busy so be careful of the early morning crowd. Easy drive from the townhome. Get on Hwy 2 off 33rd street and drive west for about about 3 miles when you enter one way north 10th street. Stay in left lane on 10th Street for about 1/2 mile until you turn left/west on South Street and drive about 2 blocks where you will see Tina's on the right/north side. Small but homemade food and friendly service.

My son worked part-time at this 24/7 diner that has great home-cooked food, all-day breakfast, and antiques adorning the walls which remind you of the good old days. Food is tasty, plentiful, and the staff keep your coffee cup full during your meal. It is only about 1 mile west on Hwy 2. Exit to the south off Hwy 2 at Southwood Drive and then High-Way Diner is immediately to your right.
