Food scene

The historic port victualling yard for the navy built by King Billie. Great restaurants and nice views. Home to The Illuminate Festival at the end of November! There are a lot of Good Restaurants and cafes there, many with outside space for dining, during these times. Many of these restaurants offer delivery via Deliveroo and Ubereats… We like Wildwood, for Pizzas, Ocean Studios café for breakfast, Wagamama’s for noodles and Bistro Pierre for more up- market dining. Make the trip extra- special by catching the Water Taxi from the Barbican…

Sightseeing

Places to visit in Plymouth and nearly
The Barbican seafront is a very historic place with great restaurants and a beautiful seafront to admire. The name Barbican is given to the old port area of Plymouth, famous for the departure of many famous journeys by amongst others, Sir Francis Drake, Captain Cook, Charles Darwin and the Mayflower Pilgrims. The Restaurants we like are Montys, The Boathouse, (for breakfast) and Yukisan, The Barbican Kitchen and Piermasters…for more up market dining. A lot of restaurants have outside space for dining to accommodate people during covid. There are also good Fish and Chip shops there..too- SeaSalt!

A monument to the Pilgrim Father who set sail from Plymouth in 1620, to make a new life in America. It is a little underwhelming probably because the actual steps that the Pilgrims left from are in the Admiral McBride pub, ladies toilets, where you can visit them and also treat yourself to a crab sandwich.

My favourite local beaches

Great local beaches that I love
Great local beach with miles of gorgeous golden sand. Great view of Burgh Island which is famous for its historic pub the Pilchard Inn and its Art Deco Burgh Island hotel which hosted Agatha Christie and is the setting for her novel “ And Then There Were None”. Take a trip to the island, during high tide on its high-wheeled iconic sea tractor-vehicle!

A lot of water sports enthusiasts and swimmers gather here for wild swimming, it can be a little hard to access the water here, but a good swimming location, also handy for The Royal William yard for a post-swim snack or drink.

Què t'has d'emportar

Bring clothes for all kinds of weather: fold up umbrella, a waterproof jacket, t- shirts and a hat.

The south of England can experience all types of weather in one day. So be prepared: the key is layering t- shirt with warm jumper and a waterproof coat. I always carry a fold up umbrella.

Plymouth is easy to get around

The local buses in Plymouth are excellent and making it easy to get around by bus. There are also a lot of buses that will go to some of the local attractions outside Plymouth. If however you would like to visit local beaches and the wild places like Dartmoor hiring a car is of course the best way to experience them. But there is a limited bus service and boat service to some of these areas, i.e., the local beaches and Dartmoor National Park.
