A fabulously quirky pie-&-mash cafe, offering a wide range of meat or vegetarian pies. The staff are super-friendly and the pies are super-tasty - it's also a great spot if you just want a relaxing cup of coffee.

Chawton would be a lovely 'old world' village to visit even without the connection to Jane Austen - but for admirers of the author it's a must. The House is presented as Jane Austen would have known it, and in that sense it is more of an atmospheric time capsule than a museum.

If you start from or end up at this delightful 17th century pub you'll be rewarded with a walk along the banks of one of the many tributaries of the river Itchen. The scenery is beautiful - and once you've worked up an appetite, the food at The Bush is excellent.
