My favorite place to eat. A small corner store that sells poboys and hot plates with food just like grandma used to make. Plus some of the nicest people behind the counter! Note there is no indoor seating, so plan on eating under the covered awning or taking it to go. I recommend eating in nearby Markey's Park!

Sometimes after eating poboys and beignets for days, you start to crave something on the healthy side. My favorite is the "bowl of food" - a rotating mix of fresh vegetables, grains, that always tastes delicious. Lots of options for vegans, vegetarian, and gluten-free - but they can also add meat to pretty much anything you order.

A great place to get a nice meal or a cocktail. While more upscale than most restaurants in the neighborhood, they aren't gonna make you put on a suit and tie.

One of my favorite places if you are looking for a quick breakfast in the quarter. Good coffee (including a boozy coffee menu) and a small breakfast menu. Protip #1: if you get the breakfast sandwich, ask for it on biscuits. Protip #2: There is a chair massage place next door.

Parks & Nature

A narrow but long park that runs on the other side of the train tracks along the Mississippi river. A great place to exercise or just get amazing views of downtown. The closest entrance is the bridge - or the "Rusty Rainbow" - where Piety St. meets the river.

Essentials

Medium sized grocery store. Prices are closer to Whole-foods, but they have good sales. The fried catfish at the hot food bar is outstanding, and if you see "Shana with the green eyes" she might be willing to cook you some fresh if you ask nicely :)

This place is hard to describe. It's like a 24 hour convenience store has a baby with an organic grocery store and a Mardi Gras warehouse and a restaurant. The food at the hot bar is usually delicious and occasionally they do wood-fired pizza. The grocery store section is small but they have a surprising amount of organic foods...at organic prices. Pro-tip - always check the expiration dates. The upstairs is a wonder to behold...beads, masks, and anything else that you might need to make a good time.
